God called Mr. Jerome Lawson, from labor to reward on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at the McLeod Health Clarendon hospital. Mr. Lawson was granted eighty four (84) earthly years. He will be sorely missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Jerome Elijah Lawson was born on October 19, 1938 in Summerton, South Carolina. He was the eldest of eleven children born to Leola Stukes Lawson and Moss Lawson. He was educated in the public school system of Clarendon County, South Carolina. At an early age he became a member of the Historic Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church.
In his early twenties he went to New York City where he worked and lived with his brothers Henry and Early for several years before moving back home to S.C. due to health problems.
He lived at home under the faithful and loving care of his mother, Leola until her passing in 2009. He then spent the remainder of his life in care of his sister Henrietta and the wonderful staff of Windsor Manor and Pocotaligo River Nursing Home.
Jerome loved music and would dance as long as the music played. When he would smile, it would light up his entire face. Though unable to care for himself, he had a long and blessed life surrounded by those who cared for him and loved him dearly.
He leaves to cherish his memories: three brothers, Early (Minnie) Lawson of Brooklyn, NY, Henry (Margaret) Lawson of NY, NY and Charlie (Anna) Lawson of Manning, SC; five sisters, Lirlene Lewis of Manning, SC, Ida (Robert) Kennedy of NY, NY, Henrietta Ragin of Pinewood, SC, Mosetta Lawson of High Point, NC and Rosanna (Donald) Burton of High Point, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Henrietta Ragin, 7477 Summerton Highway, Summerton, South Carolina. Your condolences and comforting messages are encouraged at www.dysonshomeforfunerals.net.
