Ms. Geraldine Bennett Obituary

Geraldine Bennett, age 72; the 4th of ten siblings; The daughter of the late Bishop John Arthur and the late Joeneatha Nelson Bennett and foster Daughter of the late Sarah Brailsford Bennett, was born on August 9, 1949 in Summerton, South Carolina; and peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at McLeod Health, Manning, South Carolina.

She was reared in a Christian home and at an early age, she accepted Jesus to be her Lord and Savior. In her youth she became a member of Mt. Calvary Holiness Church where she later served as Church Secretary, sang in the choir and was crowned Queen of the 1966 King and Queen Sunday School Convocation Contest.

She received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon county; St. Paul Elementary, and Scott’s Branch High School.  She was a 1967 graduate. Upon graduating, she migrated to Jersey City, NJ where she held various jobs until January, 1969 when she found gainful employment with the N.Y. Telephone Comp. which subsequently became Verizon Telephone Company. She retired after a 30 year lucrative career in August, 1999.  In November, 1999, she relocated back to South Carolina and recommitted herself back to her home Church (Mt. Calvary Holiness) where she remained totally devoted until her demise.

She was preceded in death by four siblings; One sister-Henrietta B. Gordon and three brothers, Jurel Thomas, Ashton and Keith C. Bennett.

Her memories will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her and those lives she impacted; God-son, Shawn Gordon; siblings and their spouses, Gwendolyn and Marion Garvin of Fayetteville, NC; Vandria and Will Robinson of Orangeburg, SC; Brothers, Willie Bennett of Summerton, SC and Willie Huggins of Pennsylvania; sisters, Barbara Bennett and Dorothy Bennett White of Summerton, SC; Friends and acquaintances and a host of nieces and nephews and her Pastor, Bishop Amos Major, whom he loved and respected Dearly.
